Health through Nutrition: The Prevention Approach of Fraunhofer IMTE

Fraunhofer IMTE pursues a holistic approach to health promotion by developing innovative strategies for prevention through nutrition. In close collaboration with the Institute for Nutritional Medicine of UKSH, digital solutions are developed to make preventive measures accessible and effective. Strategic partnerships, such as with the DRK Hospital Marli, specifically strengthen prevention in gerontology. A driving force behind these developments is the DATIpilot project GRANNI, which specifically addresses the health challenges of older people.

Food Technology: Sustainable Resources for a Healthy Diet

A key research focus at Fraunhofer IMTE is the use of aquatic resources to develop novel, health-promoting foods. Particular emphasis is placed on macroalgae, which provide valuable proteins, vitamins, and minerals, and also have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Other research areas include the utilization of shellfish and fishery by-products, which remain underused, and the cultivation of fish cells in bioreactors. These innovative approaches contribute to reducing the ecological footprint and make an important contribution to preventing diet-related diseases.

Future Prospects: Research for Sustainable Health

The future work of Fraunhofer IMTE focuses on the further development of resource-conserving food technologies and the optimization of personalized, AI-supported prevention solutions. With these research approaches, IMTE makes a significant contribution to health promotion and sustainability in society – for a future-proof and healthy diet.
